 IN CALUCUTTA  कलकत्यात -

54

Gadadhar is now seventeen

In Calcutta, elder brother Ramkumar is alone

Gadadhar is taken to Calcutta by his brother

With the blessings of Raghuvir and his mother.

होता होता बाळ गदाधर झाला सत्रा वर्षांचा कुमार

भाऊ त्याचा कलकत्यात एकटाच होता रामकुमार

कलकत्यास वडिलभाऊ घेऊन गेला गदाधरास

आशीर्वाद रघुवीर आणि मातोश्रीचे होते त्याच्या रक्षणास

In Calcutta he is no better

For him education does not matter

Worried is brother Ramkumar

In life, how Gadadhar will fare?

कलकत्यात रमला नाही थोडाही गदाधर

नव्हती गोडी शिक्षणात गदाधरास लवभर

चिंतेने ग्रासून गेला भाऊ रामकुमार

जीवनातून नौका ह्याची कशी व्हावी पार ?

To Gadadhar, he expresses his displeasure

His own welfare, why does he not bother?

Gadadhar's reply is quick

It makes Ramkumar sick.

व्यक्त केली रामकुमारने मनातील नाराजी फार

` तू बघ तुझं कल्याण' ताडकन उत्तरला गदाधर धारदार

ऐकून उत्तर गदाधराचं भाऊ दुःखी झाला फार

गदाधराच्या चिंतेने खचून गेला मनातून पार

This education enables one to earn annas and pies

Its sole aim is to fill the belly with rice and spice

With such aneducation, what am I to do?

Filling up the mind with nonsense, where shall we go?

``आणे, पैशांचा हिशोब शिकवतं हे शिक्षण

आहे ध्येय त्याच नुसतच उदरभरण

करणार काय आहे मी घेऊन असले शिक्षण

भरून कचरा मनात असा पोचणार कोठे आपण?

The reply is gentle and firm

Gadadhar's will is grim

Two years roll in this way

Gadadhar is happy with his way

उत्तर होत त्याच जरी नम्र तरी खंबीर

काळ घेऊन येणार होता दुःख मोठे गंभीर

दोन वर्ष पुसून गेला काळ कसा अलगद

मग्न होता गदाधर स्वतःच्याच आनंदात अनवट

In Calcutta Rani Rasmani lives

To build a temple for Mother Kali, she vows

Beautiful is the temple of Kali, the Mother

It is to remain for many weather.

राणी-रासमणी होती राणी कलकत्याची

माताकाली मंदिर उभारीन अशी प्रतिज्ञा तिची

बांधलं मंदिर सुंदर तिने श्री कालीमाता देवीचे

उन्हाळे पावसाळे पाहून किती ते आजही आहे सुंदरसे

In the temple, Ramkumar becomes the priest

But, the decision is not taken in haste

Sri Ramakrishna too, begins to stay with his brother

Great is the devotion to holy river Ganga, The Mother.

नेमले कालीमंदिरात रामकुमारला पुजारीपदी

घेतला होता निर्णय तो फार विचाराअंती

श्री रामकृष्णही राहू लागे  तेथे भावासंगती

होती अपार श्रद्धा त्याची पवित्र गंगामातेप्रति

A nephew, Hriday begins to stay there

Because of this, the uncle is bereft of care

A temple dedicated to Radha and Krishna, there is

Beholding the divinities, the devotees have peace

राहू लागला तेथे त्यांचा पुतण्या हृदय नावाचा

होऊ लागली हेळसांड आणि काका गेला भरकटला

त्याच आवारात होत मंदिर एक राधाकृष्णाच

पावित्र्यामुळे तेथील भक्तांना ते शांती द्यायच.

 

 

FIRST VISION OF THE DIVINE MOTHER

काली मातेचा पहिला साक्षात्कार

After a year of priesthood, Ramkumar breathes last

Leaving behind his brother and mother in this world vast

Now to serve the Divine Mother, is Gadadhar's only duty

In the pleasure of the world, he does not see any beauty

असेल लोटलं एक वर्ष तो घेतला रामकुमारने श्वास अंतिम

सोडून गेला ह्या अफाट जगात तो भाऊ आणि आईस

आता कालीमातेची सेवा हे एकच ध्येय गदाधरचं

ह्या भौतिक सुखात रमत नव्हत जराही मन त्याचं

From neck her hangs a garland of skulls

The devotees hearts,with joy she fills

With her lower right hand, she offers boon

On her forehead, adorn is the moon

होत्या रुळत रुंडमाळा गळ्यात कालीमातेच्या

भरून येई भक्तांचे उर दर्शनाने तिच्या

उजवा हात आशीर्वादासाठी उचलला तिने होता

भाळी चंद्र तिला नित्य भूषवीत होता.

She is both terrible and sweet

In Her, the opposites meet

For him , She is the affectionate mother

About other things, he does not bother.

भयद होती मूर्ति तिची, तरीही गोजिरी सुंदर

दोन विरोधी गोष्टींचा तिच्या ठायी साधला संगम

गदाधरसाठी होती ती, प्रेमळ त्याची माता

पर्वा नव्हती त्याला, जगाची काही आता.

Where art Thou, O Mother

Reveal Thyself to me

I do not want wealth, friends and pleasure

My only desire is to see Thee

माते आहेस कुठे तू दाखव तुझे स्वरूप

तळमळ लागली जीवा, माते तुझ्या दर्शनाची खूप

नको धन, नको मित्र, नको भौतिक सुखे

एकच इच्छा पुरव माझी; दाखव मला रूप तुझे

Sri Ramakrishna's mind

Is very eager to find

The truth behind the image

Or is it mere mirage?

होता उतावीळ रामकृष्ण सत्य जाणून घेण्यासाठी

दडलं आहे काय रहस्य मूर्तीमधे शोधण्यासाठी

का नुसतच आहे मृगजळ हे फसगत करण्यासाठी

आवर्तने विचारांची त्याच्या चालू होती मनात मोठी.

"Mother, why dost Thou not listen to me?

For many days, I pray for Thee

Ramprasad, Thou didst bless

Thee why should I miss?"

`` तुझ्या लेकराची आर्त हाक, माय ऐकू येत नाही का तुला?

किती दिवस तुझ्या चरणी करत आहे मी सेवा

रामप्रसादवर  माते तू नाही केलीस कृपा

पण माझ्यावर का कठोर होसी? नको करु अवकृपा.

Thus is his cry for the Mother

But, to reveal Herself She doesn't bother

Determined is the son

To have her vision.

 उमटत होती हाक तळातून आंतरात्म्याच्या

पण आई होती शांत; घाई नव्हती कसलीच तिला

परंतु होता निर्धार पक्का तिच्या ह्या लेकराचा

एक ना एक दिवस स्वरूप मातेचे पाहण्याचा.

When he takes the sword

Helplessly She does yield

The temple buildings, everything vanish

Into an infinite effulgent ocean of Bliss .

घेतली त्याने हातात, तलवार जेंव्हा अखेरीस

सोडून दिला निरुपायाने  हट्ट तिने  अखेरीस

गेले विरून मंदिर आणि भोवतालचे सर्व काही

असीम अशा आनंदाच्या तेजोराशीत पाही.

Before him, Her radiant form stands

To her devotees, boons she grants

She teaches in various ways

Such are these happy days

झाली प्रकट आकृती त्याच्या समोर तेजःपुञ्ज प्रकाशमान

देण्यासाठी भक्ताला ह्या तिचे शुभंकर वरदान

दिले अनेक प्रकारे तिने भक्ताला तिचे  ज्ञान

होते दिवस ते आनंदाचे अमृतासारखे छान.

Brahman of Vedanta is Kali, my Mother

about philosophy, I do not bother

To the knower, She is the dearest Self

This is known if She reveals Herself

To this universe, She has given birth

If you know her, there is mirth

वेदांतातील ब्रह्म म्हणजेच माझी कालीमाता

माहीत नाही मला बाकी सिद्धांतांची गाथा

झालं ज्याला तिचं ज्ञान, त्यालाच  ती प्राणाहून प्रिय

दाखविले ज्याला स्वरूप तिने त्यालाच कळेल हे श्रेय

सा र्‍या ब्रह्मांडाची माता तीच; तीच आहे जगज्जननी

कळले ज्याला स्वरूप तिचे त्यालाच सर्वोच्च आनंदाची प्राप्ती

As your own mother, accept the Divine Mother

Do not have any doubt, my dear brother

Mother of the Universe, of all

No necessity of any talk at all.

आहे जशी जन्मदात्री तशीच अंगिकार ही जगज्जननी

किंतु नको परंतु नको, हे बंधो!  विश्वास ठेव तू माझ्यावरती

माय ही सा र्‍या जगाची माता ही सा र्‍या विश्वाची

राहिली नाही जरुर आता व्यर्थ कुठल्या शब्दांची.

 

God-Intoxicated State

देवाने भारलेली अवस्था / देवाच्या धुंदीत

 

कालीमातेने भारलेली स्थिती

He becomes like a child

The Mother, sometimes does hide

"Mother, in Thee I have taken refuge

My ego, in thee please merge."

होई कधी लहान बालक आणि मातेस तो शोधी

बसे कधी माता लपून आणि गम्मत त्याची पाही

``तुझ्याशिवाय नाही माय आश्रय मला कुठला

वितळून जावो अहं माझा हे साकडे घालतो तुला.''

With the delight of girl, she walks

With him, the Living Mother talks

A God-intoxicated man, Sri Ramkrishna is

For him, without the Mother, where is peace?

बालिकेसारखी निर्मळपणे संगे त्याच्या ती चाले

सजीव होऊन त्याच्या संगे त्याची जगदंबा बोले

व्यापून टाकले कालीने त्या रामकृष्णाचे चित्त

तीच त्याची मनःशांती आणि तीच त्याचे विश्व.

For him, She is not object of fear

To him, She is very dear

Mother, Mother, everywhere

This mundane world he care?

वाटत नव्हते आता त्याला, जराही तिचे भय

सर्वस्व त्याचे तीच होती; दिले तिने अभय

कणाकणात चराचरात भरून राहिली दिसे माता

निरस संसाराचा मग करावा त्याने कशास धावा.

Many are his visions

He puts himself in different positions

For vision of Rama, he pants

In the attire of Hanuman, he suppliants.

दिसे त्याला माता त्याची, वेगवेगळ्या रूपात

त्यानुसार स्वतःस बघे, तो वेगवेगळ्या भक्तरूपात

कधी ती दिसली रामरूपात तर तो होई भक्त हनुमान

घेऊन वेष हनुमंताचा मागे राम-चरण-सेवेचे दान

Before him appears a luminous figure

Full of exquisite grace is Sita, The Mother

Before he could fallat her feet,crying "Mother"

In to his body She does enter.

कधी प्रकट होई समोर मूर्ती तेजोमयी

सौजन्याची प्रेमळ मोठी उभी सीतामायी

पुकारत तिला ``सीतामाई सीतामाई ''

तिच्यापायी तो लोळण घेई

ओघळत राहत त्याच्या अश्रू  गाली

आणि हळुच ती त्याच्यातच सामावून जाई.

"God too is bound by His own laws"

Such a view is full of flows

A plant bearing only Red flowers grows

On the same stalk, red and white China Rose

All laws are subject to the will of God

He can change them at a nod

बांधला आहे ईश्वर सुद्धा त्याच्याच बनविलेल्या नियमांनी

धाब्यावर बसवून नियम सगळे घडत नाही वेगळ काही

यावा लाल गुलाबाच्या फांदीवर पांढरा गुलाब चिनी

ही इच्छाच आहे असत्य दम तिच्यात काहीच नाही

आहेत नियम बनविलेले सगळे त्या जगन्नियंत्यानी

चालतात त्याच्या इच्छेनुसार आणि बदलतातही त्याच्याच इच्छेनी
